Damion James | Forward | Texas
Class: Junior Height: 6'8 Weight: 225lbs High School: Nacogdoches High Hometown: Nacogdoches, TX College Stats |
Strengths: A year ago you would have said there is not much need on an NBA team for a 6'6 (w/o shoes) forward without a jump shot, so what did James do? He developed a nice looking jumper out to college 3pt range. He has improved from a 9% success rate from the 3pt line to a staggering 41% in less than a year. His attempts also went from less than 20 to over 90. You cannot question Damion's love for the game or his willingness to learn, and excell. James is able to take the ball to the basket with his tremendous athletic ability. James has quick feet, and good footwork inside the paint. He is quick off his feet which allows him to be an excellent rebounder, and shot blocker. Defensively James is above average. He rarely makes a mistake in his defensive assignments.
Weaknesses: Where he improved in his 3pt FG% he has regressed in his FT%. James gets to the line with frequency, but only connects at a 57% rate. He needs to become a 40 minute a night player if he is to excell in the NBA. While he has improved his jump shot, it's still not at the consistency level you would find in draft prospects at the forward position. James suffers from what a lot of tweeners suffer from. He's got multiple skills for multiple positions but does not excell in any single area outside of defense, and rebounding. He needs to continue to develop his offensive game if he is to have a chance in the NBA. I am very excited to see what part of James's game has improved this year. James is a sleeper, and could be a major mover in this years draft.
